I started a wedding playlist on Spotify awhile back but it needed some help. So Gavin took on the challenge of providing the overarching playlist for our wedding reception. (Note: This is in addition to the set list of rappers and other musical performances.)
We’ll give this to DJ Kalkutta as a reference, so she knows the overall tone and what types of music to pull from: some Jay Z, Kanye, The Foundations, Flo Rida, and more.
Gavin even found a fabulous song to play while we have our first (as a married couple) dance!
We’re still working on the father/daughter and mother/son dances but we have some ideas. Just finalizing timing with our DJ and then we should be all set for the music.
Recently, Gavin and I had a dinner with DJ Kalkutta at Cafe Habana in Nolita. It was my first time meeting her and Gavin was totally right: she is super nice and down-to-earth.
We chatted a bit about music types and got the official paperwork sorted while enjoying some delicious Cuban eats and sangria.
Gavin and I still owe her a playlist of some sort, so she knows what to mix from. We’re both really excited to have her for the wedding!
Gavin spoke to DJ Kalkutta yesterday and confirmed that she will indeed be our DJ at the wedding reception. (DJ Dean has been MIA since months ago but we don’t care because DJ Kalkulla is a rockstar. She’s worked with people such as Nick Cannon, Avril Lavigne and Betsey Johnson.)
In addition to her normal style of spinning (which will probably be fully underway toward the end of the night), DJ Kalkutta has also agreed to play some “normal wedding reception music.”*
Check out her article on YRB Magazine. (We have the printed version at home.)
* Don’t worry, Dad. She said she’s willing to work with us on the playlist. I’ll be sure to drop in some rock and roll classics for you and Mary Jane to dance to.
